“Banking of the future is not an administrative act, but a question of attitude” – In the latest episode of Tech & Tacheles, Florian Geiling (Chief Marketing Officer at Sopra Financial Technology) and Felix Flüs (Head of Marketing Communication at Hauck Aufhäuser Lampe) discuss how banks can reach the next generation of customers and why financial education will also take place on TikTok in the future. Nuremberg, October 8, 2025 – Rethinking banking means taking younger generations seriously. Under the title “Next Gen, Next Level – Does Banking Need to Be Rethought?”, the ninth episode of the Tech & Tacheles podcast examines what millennials and Gen Z expect from financial institutions: customer relationships on an equal footing instead of traditional advice.
Financial education on TikTok and other platforms
For the next generation, financial knowledge is not optional, but a prerequisite for financial success. Young customers do not rely exclusively on bank advisors, but are increasingly turning to TikTok, YouTube, or AI-supported tools for information – and are correspondingly confident when talking to their bank. “This generation wants to understand where their money is going, and they expect transparency and sustainability,” says Felix Flüs. Investment decisions in the banking of the future will therefore increasingly be made using a cooperative approach: young investors want to actively shape their portfolios and are not satisfied with standardized offerings. Florian Geiling emphasizes: “The new generation has clear ideas. They are looking for partners who will work with them to create value and enable innovation.”
Social media is changing banking
Social media is an integral driver of this change: while traditional search engines remain relevant for younger customer groups as a means of accumulating financial knowledge and gathering information about developments on the financial markets, platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and Twitch are becoming increasingly relevant for brand building and employer branding. Banks – both panellists agree – must face up to this dynamic and establish a truly compelling presence on social media in order to remain visible and relevant.
Valuable partnerships
In addition to financial education and digital visibility, guests emphasize the growing importance of value-based partnerships. Banks and service providers no longer act purely as transaction partners, but increasingly as co-creators who develop new solutions together with their customers. This also brings the question of fundamental attitude to the fore: What values does an institution embody, what does it stand for externally – and how consistently does it implement this in everyday life?
The next generation judges financial service providers not only on the basis of returns, but also on transparency, sustainability, and social responsibility. Felix Flüs uses the example of the Next Gen Advisory Board at Hauck Aufhäuser Lampe to describe how young customers are actively involved in strategic planning. Florian Geiling also emphasizes that Sopra Financial Technology is actively driving change: “We see ourselves as co-creators of a digital Europe – it's about creating value together with our customers and shaping transformation in partnership.”
A format with attitude
Tech & Tacheles is aimed at decision-makers at financial services providers. In each episode, guests draw cards with provocative statements from a “black box,” take a position, and engage in open and informed discussion. The podcast is hosted by Birgit Hass, Senior Marketing Manager at Sopra Financial Technology.
